Features

The WebChat client has a long and growing list of features. Of course, they are no use if you don't know how to use them. This page explains the features - from what they mean to how to use them.

Simple, easy-to-use interface

Context menus, hints and context-sensitive help all aim to make your chatting experience as easy as possible. And, when you become experienced, you can customize your the chat interface to suit your needs.

Supports a subset of CheetaChat command line syntax

CheetaChat is a popular chat program used for chatting on systems such as Yahoo! If you have come from the CheetaChat environment you will find that many of the command-line options work in WebChat.

If you have not come from a CheetaChat environment, simple menu options let you use the power of these command line options - or you can learn them by reading WebChat help.

Ignore and Away Features

Firstly, some people may annoy other users - while public chat servers are under strict orders to ban abusive users, this process may take a while. In the mean time you may choose to ignore certain user so their speech and private messages are not shown.

Secondly, you may occasionally have to leave your computer without leaving chat. You can use special commands and/or menus to notify others users that you are away.

Save HTML or Plain Text Transcripts

The chances of you actually remembering everything you need to while chatting is slim. If you need a copy of what has been said during a chat session you can easily save it - either as HTML with coloured, formatted text or as a simple, plain text file.

Full Emotion Support

While chatting you may sometimes wish to express an emotion. WebChat comes with a variety of preset emotions and actions, and you can also create your own.

Private Messaging

Private messaging allows you to send private messages to other users in a separate window. This lets you have your own, uninterrupted, conversation.

Whisper

Sometimes you may wish to say something private to another user, but not start a private conversation. The 'whisper' option allows you to send a private message which appears within the main chat window.

HTML Support

The latest version of the client supports HTML tags, so you can add formatting to your text. Look out for more improvements in this area.
