Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting Genie Customer Care. If you need to reply to this automated email, please include the original question and do not send attachments as they cannot be opened. We have listed below the most common questions regarding the Genie Text Messaging facility. This includes how to use the “Text Messaging” service and how to set up “Email to Mobile” and “You’ve got Mail”. Please note that “Email to Mobile” and “You’ve got Mail” are not yet fully functional. Also, if you have been using the old @sms.genie.co.uk service to have email forwarded to your phone, you will have noticed that this service has stopped functioning. We regret that we do not have a time scale for a fix at this time. Unfortunately due to the nature of the SMS system, there can often be delays. This can be caused by poor signal strength on the recipients mobile phone, or more commonly due to high traffic on the SMS server. TEXT MESSAGES To send a Text Message to any UK Digital mobile phone, just go to www.genie.co.uk and log in. Hover your mouse over “Message Centre” at the top of the screen and click on “Text Message” from the dropdown menu. This will take you straight to the “Text Message” page. Fill out the “To”, “Subject” and “Message” boxes and click on “Send”. If it is the first time you have used the service, when you click on “Send” you will be told “You must Validate your mobile phone before you can send Text Messages. Just click on “Validate your mobile phone” and enter the validation/security code that was sent to your mobile phone when you first registered, and click OK. If you have lost or forgotten your validation code, just click on the word “new”, where it says “If you don't have the verification code, we can send a new verification code to your phone”. COST OF TEXT MESSAGES While in the UK there is no charge to receive SMS alerts on your mobile phone (charges may apply when abroad). It is also free to send messages to a mobile phone using the Text Messaging service on our website. The only cost involved with this service is the connection time to the Internet (Local call rate if you are using our dial up service) and when phoning the Genie Radio number for more information on received alerts. Calls to Genie Radio are charged at 39p per minute on a BT Cellnet mobile phone (49p per min for Easylife users). EMAIL TO MOBILE PHONE Your email address is username@genie.co.uk . With the “Email to Mobile Phone” option, which is listed under “Message Centre”, you can have your Email forwarded to your mobile phone. You can have “all” your mail forwarded, or just mail that meets certain criteria. To set this up, just visit www.genie.co.uk and hover your mouse over the “Message Centre” link and choose the “Email to Mobile Phone” option. You now have two choices. 1/ If you have never used this service before, click here. Click on “here” and you will be taken to a page where you can make up to 3 message rules. Or you can put a tick in the box at the bottom of the page that says “Always alert me”. (Note that putting a tick here will override any message rules that you set up). Click OK. 2/ If you previously used our email forwarding service using the email address @sms.genie.co.uk, and wish to continue doing so, click here. This link is not functional at this time. YOU’VE GOT MAIL With “You’ve got Mail”, which is listed under “Message Centre”, you can have an alert sent to your mobile phone once a day to let you know if you have any new mail. This can be sent in the morning, afternoon or evening. To set this up, just go to www.genie.co.uk and log in. Hover your mouse over the “Message Centre” link at the top of the screen and choose “You’ve got mail” from the dropdown menu. The next page will give you 4 options. Just put a dot in the radio button next to your choice. The options are O Disable O In the morning (6 a.m. – 9 a.m.) O In the afternoon (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.) O In the evening (6.30 p.m. – 9.30 p.m.) While you can set this service up on your account now, the service is not yet functional. If you set it up now, when the service begins to function, your alerts will be forwarded to your mobile. Regards Genie Customer Care
