4: Search Engine Submission
If you want people to visit your site, the best way to do it is to submit your site to some search engines. Indeed, a lot of people come to this site via referrals from Google.com (who also provide Yahoo!'s search ability). You can do this quite easily by using the Iosphere 2 search submission tool. This submits your site to the following search engines:
Configuring the Submission Tool
Unlike the Link Checker, you must configure the Submission Tool before you use it. Go to the Search Submission tab in Project|Properties. There are two options:
URL is the actual URL to submit to the search engines - normally this will be the initial entry page of your site (e.g. http://www.yourdomain.co.uk). However, if you have a site-map or alphabetical listing (which Iosphere can automatically generate) you should submit that instead. This will greatly accelerate the speed at which your site is indexed.
Comment provides a small description of your site to aid the search engines in their categorisation of your site. You should be concise and descriptive.
PLEASE NOTE: Lycos requires an email address to be given when a site is submitted, so that the owner of the site can be contacted should the need arise (i.e. if they can't find the site). Iosphere takes the "Contact Email" address specified on the General tab of ProjectProperties.|
Using the Submission Tool
Once you have configure the tool, simply click it's toolbar button
(
). You will see
the following:

Click Start, and submission will commence. That's all there is to it. Please bear in mind that repeated submissions will just get you banned. Take a look at the Net Tips article Search Engines - Part I: Get Listed for advice on how to improve your position with the search engines.
Search engine names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective companies. Submitting your site is not a guarantee that it will be added to their indexes.
