Definitions

Throughout the life of a product there are many different stages if development. The list below defines some of the terms used in the version history.

Public

Releases which are publicly released for download on this site.

Private

Releases which are given to a select group of testers.

Beta

Releases which are not complete, but are given out for others to spot bugs and suggest features.

Alpha

Releases which are not given to anyone outside of the organisation, as they occur early in the development when the software is not fit for public use.

Build 322 (Public) (2004-12-07)

• Added the option to change the style of HTML comments.

Build 321 (Public) (2004-08-25)

• Added an option on the "Code Assistant" tab to change the location of the HTML Code Reference base URL. The base URL will have tag=[tag]&attr=[attr] appended to it. A sample JavaScript-enabled file is included in [installdir]\HTML\index.html to demonstrate how you could use this to link to a local reference or your own online help.

Build 320 (Public) (2004-08-23)

• Added middle-click close for the tab bar.
• Improvements to HTML "F2" (code reference) support.

Build 319 (Public) (2004-03-02)

• Modifications to the crash reporting to code to improve identification of errors.

Build 318 (Public) (2004-02-29)

• Added error reporting to try and gather extra information about crashes.
• Modified the Java CodeAssistant to load and use the Java Virtual Machine directly.
• Extended code-context help to Java.

Build 317 (Public) (2004-02-28)

• Fixed a bug where the editor background colour could not be changed.
• The "New" dialog now remembers which category was selected last.
• Added constants to the Perl code explorer.
• Fixed a bug where word wrap would not stay on or off when set from the menu or toolbar.

Build 316 (Public) (2004-02-27)

• Fixed the "Open With .Edit" context menu to open all selected files.
• Fixed a bug with unmatched bracket flashing. Unmatched brackets now flash in red.
• Fixed the autocompletion system.
• Added a new "Reference" tab alongside "Explorer" and "Code Explorer". Limited support for HTML help using the "F2" key.

Build 315 (Public) (2004-02-24)

• Modifications to the code explorer for increased flexibility. These changes will be used shortly!
• Addition of the messages area in the Tool Status box for Code Explorer integration.

Build 314 (Public) (2004-02-22)

• Updates to word-wrap support.
• Updates to external highlighter support.

Build 313 (Public) (2004-02-22)

• Minor updates to word-wrap support.

Build 312 (Public) (2004-02-21)

• Fixed a bug where the HTML highlighter colours were lost between sessions.
• Added provisional word wrap support - it will be improved in subsequent versions. You may enable word wrap for a file using the right-click menu or for all files of a particular type through Tools | Preferences -> File Types.

Build 308 (Public)

• Upgraded syntax highlighter for (hopefully) more stability.
• Switched to a much better Perl highlighter.

Build 306 (Public)

• CodeExplorer item sorting.
• Perl moved to Perl.Edit external module.
• Basic Perl CodeExplorer added.
• Perl highlighter extended to highlight POD.

Build 304 (Public)

• Internal changes to the CodeExplorer to support Lingo.

Build 303 (Public)

• Added PayPal donation buttons - thanks to everyone who's used them!

Build 300 (Public)

• Highlights ASP/ASP.NET server-side scripting correctly when in <% %> blocks.
• Copies highlighted text to clipboard in HTML format.
• Font for printing can be changed independently of the editor font.

Build 295

• Cosmetic fixes.
• Usability improvements.
• Help updates.
• Added "Saved Searches".
• Added Auto Update.
• Fixed heavy CPU usage on large files.
• Added toolbar customisation.
• Further speed improvements.
• Added new features to the Explorer pane.
  (Note: The drive letters have now been removed. If you have an existing installation, add a Favourite Folder with a blank path to view the Desktop).

Release Candidate 1 - Build 288

• Cosmetic fixes.
• Help updates.

Beta 3 (Public) - Build 286

• Added support for a plug-in Java IDE module (included in the main download).
• Quick clipboards now have keyboard shortcuts.
• Various cosmetic fixes.
• Updated help.
• Partial Unicode support - Unicode files with only standard ASCII characters can be opened and saved safely - however special characters will be lost.
• Faster startup time.

Beta 2 (Public) - Build 283

• Increased speed of HTML Assistant in large documents.
• Fixed multi-highlighter problem in ASP and PHP.
• Rewritten all search and replace code.
• Added multi-file search and replace.
• Replaced Tool Output Window and Link Checker window with a new tabbed panel.
• Updated link checker.
• Added an explorer bar with "Favourite Folders".
• Fixed highlighting bugs in PHP, ASP, JSP and Haskell highlighters.
• Added support for Windows XP controls.
• Increased speed of "Tag Properties" dialog.
• Removed unpopular highlighters from the main package - they are now available separately.
• Created additional highlighters for the new plug-in system.
• Added shortcut keys to tools (finally).

Beta 1 (Public) - Build 276
1st January 2002

Initial public release. All users require a free authorisation code to use it.
