I use .Edit for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons for using it is the Syntax Highlighting which enables me to see at a glance if I have mistyped keywords etc (which is a common occurance). .Edit's bracket matching is another invaluable feature when trying to understand the 42 errors javac is telling you about due to a mistype
Scripts and HTML files which run on colino.co.uk which are not part of the main website (eg. Temporary Documents) are always created in .Edit. The HTML files that I maintain on stirlingalbionfc.co.uk are also created and/or maintained in .Edit.
.Edit's tool support is an invaluable feature when you are writing a Perl script or Java applet, you just need to double click the error line and it will be highlighted which helps spot the problem instantly. Also, the flexibility of files that .Edit recognises is extremely useful and enables custom filetypes to be created and accessed from convenient menus and dialogs.
I also make use of .Edit for its "open files from FTP" feature. This enables me to quickly download and save the log file for websites that I maintain.
