Website Development

I use Iosphere for most website development (.Edit shares a lot of technology with it). As a result my most commonly used feature for website development is direct FTP editing.

If somebody spots a mistake on one of my pages and I don't have Iosphere handy (for example, when at Imperial, I can fire up .Edit and correct the mistake directly on the server.

ashleybrown.co.uk has certain administration scripts which collate visitor information and process registrations. These aren't part of the website itself so I use .Edit to create the scripts instead.

Java Development

Part of my first year degree work involved Java development and WebChat has a Java client. However, I've never found a Java IDE I can really get on with. JBuilder has excellent code completion, however I don't need the visual design functionality. It is also a memory hog. As a result of this .Edit was modified to increase it's flexibility - first with tool support (to let me run the Java compiler) and then with additional code completion and inspection.

I now use .Edit for all my Java development, using Save Copy As URL to update the source on the College FTP server.

General File Browsing

In addition to the above, I use .Edit to open a variety of other files for viewing.
