Direct FTP Editing
One of the many features of .edit is its ability to treat files on FTP servers in the same way as those on the local hard disk.
Selecting the
"Open URL" button from the toolbar (right) will bring up the "Open URL..."
dialog box.

.edit lets you browse for an FTP file to open, providing you have configured the FTP servers you wish to use. Otherwise, you can enter a full URL to open a file from any server.
When you have finished editing, clicking the save button uploads the file back to the server.
You do not have to open a file from an FTP server to save to one either - the "Save As URL" menu option allows you to save a file straight to an FTP server, in the same way as you would open one.
And, if you'd rather work on a local copy and then upload when it is finished, the Save Copy menu option does what you need.
