Saved Searches

It is not uncommon to perform the same search and replace operation on a regular basis - for example, removing all font tags from old HTML code. Saved searches, as the name suggests, allow you to save these common searches for later use. They can either be reloaded into the search window, or accessed from a button on the main toolbar. This page demonstrates the saved searches, using removal of HTML font tags as an example.

Setting-up the Search

The first step is the same as with any normal search - open the file you wish to search in, then click the "Find" or "Replace" buttons to bring up the Find & Replace dialog. For this example, font tag removal, we want to Replace.

Next, enter the text you wish to search for, what you want to replace it with and set the options you require. For this example, the dialog should look like the following:

Before clicking "Replace All", click "Save Search..." and enter "Remove Font Tags" when asked for a name. The search settings are saved and can be reloaded later.

Using Saved Searches

There are 2 ways to use Saved Searches: from the Find & Replace dialog itself or from a toolbar button. The Saved Searches button () provides the easiest access to searches which you don't wish to modify before running. Clicking the button will display a list of all the saved searches, as shown below:

Selecting one of the menu items will run the search.

If you need to make changes to the search before using it, open the Find & Replace dialog again. The "Select Search..." button displays a list similar to the one shown by the toolbar button. However, clicking a menu item only loads the settings for that particular search - you must select "Find" or "Replace All" to begin the search.
